Inter-faith Conference for Young Women held in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari attended the one-day “Inter-faith Conference for Young Women” in Islamabad on Thursday as the Chief Guest.
The Conference was organized by the Inter-faith Harmony Council, Jamia Ashrafia and Diocese of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Shireen Mazari emphasized that our government has taken a rights-based approach to protect the rights of minorities guaranteed by the Constitution. She said that women and Minorities are amongst the most vulnerable sections of society and thus require special safeguards to ensure that their rights are protected.

ISLAMABAD: PM’s Special Assistant on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said coordination centre has been constituted to contain the misuse of blasphemy laws.
“Misuse of blasphemy laws is being restrained in Pakistan. If anyone has any evidence in this connection, they should bring these incidents into the notice of government,” Ashrafi said this Sunday while addressing a ceremony in a church in Islamabad.
He said the government and state is responsible to ensure protection of minorities rights in Pakistan. “A complaint centre has been set up in my office to address legal complaints of minorities,” he added.

ISLAMABAD: The leaders of all religious organisations have rejected the US State Department’s report on religious freedom in Pakistan, stating that the US Commission for Religious Freedom had drafted an arbitrary report with biased and baseless information.
Addressing a joint press conference, the leaders of different religious parties along with Pakistan Ulema Council, Special Representative to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, said the US State Department, contrary to the ground realities, had listed Pakistan in the list of countries violating religious freedom. “We want to invite the US Commission for Religious Freedom to visit Pakistan and make decisions on ground realities.”
