This 2020-21 season is unique for countless reasons, but a specific one is the number of mini-series of games teams have against the same opponent in short spans.
So far this season the Thunder has played two foes with the pair of matchups falling immediately in after one another on the schedule and another two opponents where games were played less than a week apart. The Thunder has gone 0-4 in its first meetings against the Orlando Magic, New Orleans Pelicans, LA Clippers and Houston Rockets, but 3-1 in the rematches against those opponents. The sole loss, to LA, was by just eight points.

OKC kicked off the first of its three mini-series on Monday against the Rockets. In that game, Houston erupted out of the gates by knocking down 11 3-pointers and pouring in 48 points in the first quarter. The outburst from Houston set the tone for the game as the Thunder played uphill the rest of the night, despite runs to chip away at the lead.
“It s a 48-minute game and it requires a high level of competitiveness and focus and execution through all 48,” said Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault. “That s why it s hard to play in the NBA and we need to continue to try to develop that consistency starting with the jump.”

From the rainy Pacific Northwest to the dry valley of the sun, the Thunder will look to carry over the momentum it created in its 125-122 win over Portland to its matchup with Phoenix on Wednesday.
OKC took the lessons from its mini-series against the Clippers over the weekend and applied them with force on Monday night. The squad played with pace in transition, zipped the ball around in the half court and found open shooters on drive and kicks. As a result, the Thunder generated high-quality looks throughout the night leading to a red-hot shooting night where the Thunder 18 made 3-pointers and a 51 percent clip from the field.
