MusicTribe and Behringer donate synths to disadvantaged children 12th April 2021 Audio equipment brand Behringer and parent company MusicTribe is donating 1,510 synthesizers to disadvantaged children and teenagers around the world.  Each of the new MS-1 synths is also shipped with a pair of headphones, with 600 units going to South American, 400 to Europe and 160 to Africa, reports AskAudio. A further 350 units have been split between other countries including Australia, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, Japan and Indonesia. The equipment was donated through a group of carefully selected charities around the globe, including including Music For Life Africa Foundation, Save The Music (USA) and Music For All (UK).

Martin band director to present vocal technique at national conference March 14, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Martin High School Band Director Bobby Castro will serve as a presenter at the Organization of American Kodaly Educators National Conference./ At any given time, be it virtually or in person, you will always find Martin High School’s “La Banda del Animo” perfecting its skills. It’s no surprise that behind every great award-winning band is a director leading them with pride and passion while diligently working on methods and techniques to instill in the students. Martin High School band director Bobby Castro adds a method of singing into the use of instrument playing and musical visuals. This technique assists the students in becoming more musically inclined. Castro believes students can be better musicians by incorporating singing during their music rehearsals. The voice is one of the principles of the Music Kodaly Method.

Dr MLK Jr Day of Service to be celebrated virtually on Monday

January 15, 2021 Last year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day concluded with an in-person celebration in the Lawrewnce Memorial Chapel. This year’s celebration will be virtual. Photo by Sarah Navy Several virtual events are happening this Monday, Jan. 18, as a part of Lawrence’s celebration of the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service (MLK Day). Students and staff are encouraged to use their day without classes to engage in meaningful service and conversation that honors and advances Dr. King’s pivotal work as an activist for American civil rights.  The day begins with a community discussion on “Heavy: An American Memoir” by Kiese Laymon for those who have read the book. Laymon is a part of Lawrence’s 2021 Convocation Series and will be giving his speech “The Radical Possibility and Democratic Necessity of Navel Gazing” on Jan. 28.
