Logic Pro | Advanced MIDI Manipulation: Part 1

Logic Pro | Advanced MIDI Manipulation: Part 1 Apple Logic Pro X Tips & Techniques We demonstrate how flexible Logic Pro’s MIDI processing tools can be. In 1983, the second most successful computer networking protocol was born. Unlike those that underpin the Internet, the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) was not created by an academic offshoot of the military wing of the United States, but by a consortium of synthesizer manufacturing companies led by Dave Smith of Sequential and Ikutaro Kakehashi of Roland. At first, this new protocol was mostly used to connect synthesizers and drum machines together, but the advent of powerful and affordable computers such as the Atari ST led to the development of the grandparents of the Digital Audio Workstations we use today.

Pentagram designs future-proof sonic logo for MIDI s first brand identity

Pentagram designs future-proof sonic logo for digital music standard MIDI MIDI, the global standard that allows digital musical instruments to talk to each other, has a new brand identity based on sound waves designed by Pentagram. The logo for MIDI, which stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, was created by Pentagram partner and musician Yuri Suzuki together with graphic designer and partner Sascha Lobe. This refresh of MIDI s identity replaces its previous wordmark and follows the 2020 release of MIDI 2.0, the first significant update of the standard in over 35 years. Top image: the new MIDI logo. Pentagram s Yuri Suzuki and Sascha Lobe partner on MIDI s harmonious rebrand

January 20, 2021 10:23 am Pentagram partners Sascha Lobe and Yuri Suzuki have designed the new identity for the Musical Instrumental Digital Interface (MIDI), based on musical forms and frequency waves. The work includes a new logo (static and sonic), sound design, video and motion graphics as well as typography. MIDI is used by musicians, producers and DJs as a way to create and share musical work. Before MIDI technology, there was no standardised way of synchronising electronic musical instruments from different companies. In the early 1980s, Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi and Sequential Circuits president Dave Smith discussed how an industry standard could be formalised and came up with the plans for MIDI. The first instruments that used the technology were the Roland Jupiter-6 and the Prophet 600, both released in 1982.
