Further disruption to long distance rail travel

There will be significant disruption across the rail network on Saturday as a number of high-speed trains LONG distance rail services from Wiltshire to London Paddington are likely to suffer further disruption for the rest of this week after the discovery of cracks in some Hitachi high-speed trains. Only around ten per cent of Great Western Railway s long-distance services ran over the weekend with similar disruption forecast to take place this week. The train operator said customers for long-distance services should avoid travelling long-distances if possible and that full refunds would be issued for journeys already booked.

news Rail disruption to continue into second day © PA Media Two of the UK s busiest rail operators are warning passengers not to travel on Sunday because of disruption caused by the discovery of cracks in some high-speed trains. Great Western Railway and London North Eastern Railway trains of the Hitachi 800 model were taken out of service for safety inspections on Saturday. Hitachi has apologised and said it was investigating the issue. The railway minister warned disruption was likely for a prolonged period . Chris Heaton-Harris said the issue had been found on part of the chassis - the base frame - of some trains on Saturday morning following routine inspections.

Worcester Scouts appeal for volunteers as numbers drop due to pandemic

SCOUT groups in Worcester are appealing to the public for volunteers. Scouts Hereford & Worcester are finally going back to face-to-face activities. However,with the pandemic affecting the number of volunteers, the Scouts are appealing to the public for adult volunteers. Meg Williams, Growth and Development Officer for the Scouts said, “Covid-19 has obviously affected how Scout groups can meet and run.”Since the end of March, groups around the county have been returning to face-to-face activities. She added, “Most of our groups have been very resourceful and transferred Scouting to online virtual sessions. However, we have lost some members during the past twelve months, up to 20% in certain areas of the County.” Miss Williams confirms the Scouts have welcomed financial support from Scouts both local and national, with aid provided from the council and government.
