Swanscombe Peninsula gets national recognition as an SSSI Site is designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for nationally important invertebrates, breeding birds, plants and geology. From: Chalk carpet moth - picture: Stuart Reed A valuable green space in the shadow of the M25, abundant in wildlife and with huge benefits for people, has today been designated a SSSI in recognition of its national importance for rare wildlife. The 250 hectare site, alongside the Thames Estuary, forms a corridor of habitats connecting Ebbsfleet Valley with the southern shore of the River Thames between Dartford and Gravesend. The site has an incredible assortment of grassland, scrub, wetlands, grazing marsh and saltmarsh habitat in a relatively small area, providing ideal conditions for a unique variety of wildlife.

A continuous path is to be created from Felixstowe Ferry to Bawdsey - Credit: RICHARD CORNWELL Proposals have been put forward to create a continuous path around the beautiful Deben estuary from Felixstowe Ferry to Bawdsey. The 41 kilometre project is part of the England Coast Path plan - a Government venture to create a long-distance walking trail around the entire country s coast - and will cost around £80,000. The money will be spent on a range of measures such as screening to protect sensitive bird sites, fencing, bridges, gates, signs, waymarking and interpretation panels to help visitors understand the landscape. Natural England unveils plans for final stretch of coast path in Suffolk Improved public access to section between Bawdsey and Aldeburgh. From: Orford Quay is just one of the sights along the new section of coast path in Suffolk Proposals for improved public access to a 39-mile (62km) stretch of coast between Bawdsey and Aldeburgh have been unveiled today, Wednesday 3 February 2021, by Natural England. When established, this fifth and final stretch of the path will complete a 138-mile (222km) coastal route along the Suffolk coast. It will run from the Essex/Suffolk border near Manningtree to the Suffolk/Norfolk border at Hopton-on-Sea. Extending around the Alde and Ore estuary, it includes 3 rivers: the Ore, Butley and Alde.
