Unbeknownst to everyone in Aspen, a dog breeder has set up shop at the base of Shadow Mountain.
Using puppy pictures that only a heartless old cur wouldn’t melt over, the alleged breeder has baited the internet hook and told customers as recently as last week that their beagles, dachshunds and King Charles spaniels would be shipped from an address in the 700 block of South Monarch Street, according to Aspen Police Department reports. Police have visited the site and confirmed it is a residence and not a business, said Aspen Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn.
“You know what the popular kind (of dog for sale on the sites) is? Cute,” said Linn. “All are super adorable-looking and the sweetest puppies you could ever imagine.”
Coming off of 2020 better than expected, the city of Aspen is on solid financial footing and will add five full-time positions to its roster of about 320 employees.
The new staff will be added across the city manager’s office, community development, police and parks and open space beginning on July 1.
The positions are necessary to meet growing demands of the community, according to Alissa Farrell, the city’s administrative services director.
“These are critical positions to the organization,” she said.
In total, the new positions amount to just over $500,000 annually in additional budget expenditures.
Other budgetary requests that Aspen City Council approved in an ordinance on first reading this week includes pay raises for existing staff.
Two men arrested for allegedly stealing a drone, a backpack, a bong, a camera, booze and other items from a Snowmass Village apartment unit also are suspects in the rash of vehicle thefts this week, a prosecutor said in court Friday.
Police arrested Perry Vresilovic and Caleb Rucker, both 19, on Friday morning on suspicion of theft from a Snowmass apartment after three tenants reported their residence had been burglarized late Thursday night.
Pitkin County District Judge Chris Seldin advised the two men Friday afternoon of the charges of fourth-degree felony burglary and fifth-degree felony theft.
In court, Deputy District Attorney Don Nottingham said that after the arrest of Vresilovic, police found on his person keys to a 2011 black Porsche Cayenne that had been reported stolen from the West End neighborhood Tuesday night. Aspen police on Friday also recovered the Porsche, according to Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn.
