Karen Martini s new Federation Square restaurant may be the Hero the Melbourne CBD needs

Karen Martini s new Federation Square restaurant may be the Hero the Melbourne CBD needs Gemima Cody Photo: Peter Tarasiuk Picture arthouse screenings armed with Maker and Monger cheese boxes, wines curated by Philip Rich and snacks and dinner either side by storied chef Karen Martini. That s the kind of hero Melbourne s sluggish CBD needs right now, and it launches in Federation Square on February 11. Hero is a major project for Martini and business partner Michael Gebran. The venue is multi-faceted, servicing the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), which has had a $40 million facelift. Despite a trying year for construction and staffing, Martini is optimistic. I hope this is something that makes people excited to come out in the city again.

Australian Centre for the Moving Image Reopens After Digital Overhaul

Australian Centre for the Moving Image Reopens After Digital Overhaul Patrick Frater, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne reopened on Wednesday after a $30.9 million (A$40 million) overhaul. Before it closed the venue, which evolved from the State Film Centre of Victoria, was the second most visited museum in Australia and claimed to be the most visited film museum in the world. However, its central permanent exhibition Screen Worlds, which opened in 2009 was falling behind the digital times. The planned revamp of Screen Worlds led in 2017 to a “holistic review of our museum,” Kyra Sedgwick, the ACMI’s director explained at the reopening ceremony. It closed its doors in May 2019 and renovation work continued through much of the coronavirus period. Sedgwick said that the full refit amounted to an architectural, technological and programmatical transformation.”
