Croatia plans to put Tesla on its euro coins and enrages Serbia with the idea.
Croatia’s central bank said it would put Nikola Tesla on its future 50, 20 and 10-cent coins. The decision to feature the inventor and the pioneer of alternating current electricity on the coins came from an online poll in which Croatian citizens could vote for various designs. Tesla had won, beating out the traditional cravat, the Vukovar Water Tower and the Dalmatian dog.
Reactions from Serbia came hard and fast. The Serbian National Bank said the Croatian move is “usurping the cultural and scientific heritage of the Serbian people” and threatened that “appropriate actions within EU institutions will be taken” if the plan materialises.

Ko je aprila 1814 po Evropi zadonel glas, da je Napoleon premagan, da se je moral odpovedati prestolu in da ga je evropska koalicija izgnala na Elbo, je tudi v Avstriji zavladalo nepopisno veselje, da je zopet mir v deželi. Cesar Franc I. je 23. julija 1814 poslal prebivalcem v ilirskih deželah poziv, da mu prisežejo ponovno zvestobo. Ilirci, ki so morali ob prihodu Francozov priseči zvestobo novim oblastem, so morali po vrnitvi pod avstrijsko vlado spet priseči neomajno zvestobo staremu gospodarju.
Obljubo neomajne privrženosti Habsburžanom so načrtovali tako, da naj bi se vsi podložniki, brez stanovskih razlik, poklonili in prisegli zvestobo ali s svojo besedo ali pa z besedo drugih, ki so bili poslani namesto njih. Dne 24. julija 1814 je cesar podpisal tudi natančna navodila o izvedbi prisege.
