MétéoMédia - Wonderchicken fossil reveals dawn of modern birds

Wonderchicken fossil reveals dawn of modern birds Reuters jeudi, 19 mars 2020 à 16:00 - An international team of palaeontologists have identified the oldest fossil of a modern bird yet found, dating from the age of dinosaurs. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A fossil unearthed in Belgium dubbed the Wonderchicken is providing a rare glimpse into the early evolution of modern birds at the twilight of the age of dinosaurs, right before an asteroid impact altered the course of life on Earth. Researchers on Wednesday described a partridge-sized bird named Asteriornis maastrichtensis that inhabited a seashore environment 66.7 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. It represents the oldest-known anatomically modern bird, sharing skull traits with today s landfowl like chickens, turkeys, quail and pheasants as well as waterfowl like ducks, geese and swans.

Wonder Woman 1984: What to Make of That Mid-Credit Scene

Wonder Woman 1984 is somewhat of a Schrödinger’s Cat for movies. The surprise appearance of Asteria (played TV s original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter) could, perhaps, be nothing more than a fun nod to the role that Carter played onscreen in the 1970s or, maybe, it could be a clue that the Wonder Woman movie mythology is about to become far more complicated. The name Asteria comes, as so much of the Wonder Woman property does, from Greek mythology. Asteria is pursued by Zeus the mythological god who, in Wonder Woman movie canon is the heroine’s father to the point where she eventually threw herself into the Aegean Sea to escape him… at which point, depending on the version, she either became an island before marrying another god, or found herself pursued by Poseidon before transforming herself into an island.

Director Jenkins has teased the threequel will have a contemporary feel and may well even be set in the future. In Greek mythology, Asteria (meaning star) was a Titaness who some authors made the mother of the fourth Heracles by Zeus. Of course, the King of the Gods is also Wonder Woman’s father by Queen Hippolyta.
