Chicago retail icon calls it quits leaving many memories behind

After 73 years in business, an iconic Chicago area retailer is permanently closing. That doesn t mean the families of Century Tile s two founders will be closing the doors on all the memories that were made in the eight decades during which the enterprise became one of the largest floorcovering retailers and distributors in the Midwest.
Century Tile was founded in 1947 by Frank Parks and Paul Spiewak, who met each other in college. Parks was just 19 years old when they registered the name, Century Supply Co., with Cook County. Spiewak was 20.

On Tuesday, in downtown Waco, crews were hoisting speakers and lights on a stage with a banner Baylor Men’s Basketball 2021 National Champions. A pallet of brand-new traffic cones with the City of Waco logo sat in the corner of Heritage Square, ready to be placed along Austin Avenue for the parade celebrating the Baylor Men’s Basketball team.
About an hour before the parade, families were beginning to find their spot along Austin Avenue. Green and Gold flags and banners lined the streets.
Carrie Johnson, owner of a wine bar and restaurant on Austin Avenue was excited about the parade and decided to open on a day they are normally closed.
