Virginia Opera announces 2021-2022 season with La Bohème, The Sound of Music

The 2021-2022 season begins with Richard Wagner’s first installment in his epic Ring Cycle, "Das Rheingold." This newly conceived production will be performed outdoors exclusively at Topgolf Virginia Beach and Topgolf Richmond.

Concerts on Windmill Green The lineup has been announced for the Eastham summer Concerts on Windmill Green series. Changes to COVID-19 restrictions will allow gatherings of 250 socially distanced music fans as of May 29, and the series of outdoor shows produced by the Eastham Visitors Services Board is due to begin a month later. With a record number of summer visitors expected this year, according to board chair Jim Russo, the concerts will be scheduled at 7 p.m. Mondays in June and July; 6 p.m. in August; and 5 p.m. in September. 23:47 The Stephen Sondheim Encyclopedia is a comprehensive reference devoted to musical theater’s most prolific and admired composer and lyricist. Entries cover Sondheim’s numerous collaborators from composers and directors to designers and orchestras key songs such as his Academy Award winner “Sooner or Later” (Dick Tracy), and major works including Assassins, Company, Follies, Sweeney Todd, and West Side Story. The encyclopedia also contains information about Sondheim’s mentoring by Oscar Hammerstein and his early collaboration with Leonard Bernstein, and profiles the actors who originated roles and sang Sondheim’s songs for the first time, including Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Mandy Patinkin, and Bernadette Peters.

Jeff Lunden is a freelance arts reporter and producer whose stories have been heard on NPR s Morning Edition, Weekend Edition, as well as on other public radio programs. Lunden has won several awards, including the Gold Medal from the New York Festival International Radio Broadcasting Awards and a CPB Award.
