Former President was detained in a probe related to allegations of improper management and business corruption REUTERS March 03, 2021 BARCELONA: Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman said he was badly affected by the arrest of former President Josep Maria Bartomeu and called the man who hired him as manager an exceptional person , while conceding the case was damaging for the club s reputation. Bartomeu, who hired Koeman last August but resigned in October to avoid facing a vote of no-confidence, was detained on Monday along with CEO Oscar Grau in a probe related to allegations of improper management and business corruption. The pair were released on Tuesday although the investigation, which began last year before Koeman joined as coach, remains open.

Share on Twitter Bartomeu and ex-director Jaume Masferrer exercised their right not to testify on Tuesday when answering to charges of unfair administration and corruption of business. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) confirmed the case was still open. The court of instruction 13 of Barcelona, within a case opened in May 2020 for crimes of unfair administration and corruption in business, has taken a statement today from the former directors of FC Barcelona, Josep M Bartomeu and Jaume Masferrer, as investigated, a TSJC statement read. The two investigated, who today have gone to court, have availed themselves of their right not to testify and the magistrate has agreed to provisionally release them.
