D C Honors Arlington Police Officers, Firefighters for Service During Capitol Riot

Today at 3:45pm Sixty-five Arlington County police officers and firefighters have been recognized for their help defending the U.S. Capitol when a pro-Trump mob stormed it on Jan. 6. The honor was announced in a tweet posted Monday by the Arlington County Police Department. .@DCPoliceDept recently presented members of ACPD, @ArlingtonVaFD and other local police departments with a Ribbon of Valor, recognizing their assistance during the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. pic.twitter.com/OZKQAOyVqK “On May 11, [five] members of ACPD accepted the Ribbon of Valor on behalf of the ACPD officers who responded to the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and assisted Metropolitan Police Department under a mutual aid agreement,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage tells ARLnow. “The ribbons were distributed to those officers last week.”

BREAKING: Wakefield HS Secured After Student Allegedly Made Threats

May 11, 2021 at 1:45pm A student allegedly made threats that led to Wakefield High School being placed in “secure the school mode” this morning. The incident happened shortly before noon, prompting a large police response. It involved a student who was reportedly wearing a bulletproof or similar style vest. “Just prior to 11:45 a.m., the School Resource Officer Supervisor received a call from a staff member at Wakefield High School regarding a student who had been involved in a physical altercation off school property,” Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage tells ARLnow. “The student allegedly retrieved what was described as a bulletproof vest and made verbal threats.”

Arlington Police to Host Fill the Cruiser Food Drive Later This Month

May 6, 2021 at 11:30am The first Fill the Cruiser food drive kicked off last summer in response to the growing number of people struggling to put food on the table during the pandemic. That effort yielded 6,509 pounds of donated food. The next is now planned for Tuesday, May 18. “We saw firsthand the growing need for food assistance and recognize this need remains high due to the ongoing economic impacts of the pandemic,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage said. “Through generous community donations, we can assist the Arlington Food Assistance Center as they continue their mission of feeding our neighbors in need by providing dignified access to nutritious supplemental groceries.”

“The Department is fully activated, therefore there will be a visible increase of members across all seven districts,” said department spokewoman Kristen Metzger. “As with all First Amendment demonstrations, MPD will be monitoring and assessing the activities and planning accordingly with our local and federal law enforcement partners. I am unable to discuss any additional tactical operations.” City officials said Monday they have requested National Guard assistance following the outcome of Mr. Chauvin’s trial. On Monday evening, the D.C. National Guard announced it is activating about 250 staff to support local law enforcement as needed until May 9. The Guardsmen were asked to assist police with street closures at multiple intersections to help keep pedestrian areas safe.
