The sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K Thompson. Santos is known for his work on Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix s Voltron series while Powers is in the Oscars race this year in the screenplay category for One Night in Miami, a story that he adapted from his play. He also co-wrote and co-directed the animated film Soul with Pete Doctor and Mike Jones, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Thompson worked as production designer on Spider-Verse and his other credits include Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movies.

Sony and Marvel have been working on a sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse since 2019 (production began in January 2020), and now, the studios have revealed who’ll be helming the project: a new trio of directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson.

Spider-Verse project was also helmed by a trio of directors: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman (the film was Persichetti and Rothman’s debut). While Dos Santos was originally announced as the director back in 2019,
Variety notes that the trio have been attached to the film since the beginning.

According to Variety, the long-awaited
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel has officially announced Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson as its trio of directors. Sony Pictures Animation already announced Dos Santos, but, per the trade, the director has been working alongside Powers and Thompson on the project from the start.
