Marking the end of its 2020/21 campaign, United Way Perth-Huron used part of its Spirit of Community online video celebration to announce a record-breaking fundraising total.
The agency raised $1,924,517 – well over the campaign goal of $1.762 million and up 18 per cent over last year’s efforts.

“The response by donors across Perth and Huron counties has been beyond our expectations,” said executive director Ryan Erb.
“With everyone dealing with the ongoing pandemic and the challenges it presents, we weren’t sure what to expect,” he added. “But our communities responded and embraced how important it was to help those in need.”

Prudential Financial Inc. has announced the latest state honorees of its annual Spirit of Community Awards.
The awards were given to 102 middle- and high-school students in the U.S. for excellence in community service.
Given in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the awards honor students in the fifth through 12th grades who make meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service, a news release said.
The 2021 award winners from all 50 states and the District of Columbia were honored for initiatives completed at least in part between the fall of 2019 and the fall of 2020.

Those 10 National Honorees will earn an additional $5,000 scholarship, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their nominating organization and a $5,000 grant for a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice.
