Music Album reviews with Mik Sabiers: January 17

★★★★ ART punk, wry observations, some musical magic and a slew of special guests – there’s a lot packed into this debut.   Musically, it swings from modish bons mots to psychedelic riffs mixed with good old odd pop a la the Young Knives. The Finger echoes Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life and Noisy Neighbours is a rocking art-punk tune, although single Psychedelic Shirt is a bit too contrived.   Special guests pepper the record, from the late Neil Innes of the Rutles to goth-rock legend Jon Klein of Specimen and Siouxsie & the Banshees fame, who not only played on but also produced the album.

Live4ever s Best Of 2020: The Albums

Live4ever’s Best Of 2020: The Albums 14 December, 2020 20: Working Men’s Club – Working Men’s Club “At times, they’re just bloody lovely, the glistery Madchester frescoes of Outside and Tomorrow for all the world sounding like the sort of pilled up escapism teenage hostages sometimes plump for, while the Berliner techno muscle of A.A.A.A. shifts to nihilism, distorted vocals and grinding low end sounding like the thoughts you might have inside your head if the surroundings didn’t have it in a vice. There’s also a deadly, playful air of provocation: Cook A Coffee is aimed squarely at the UK’s brillo haired, establishment shill Andrew Neil.”

Paul McCartney - McCartney III (Album Review)

Paul McCartney - McCartney III (Album Review) Wednesday, 23 December 2020 Written by Alex Myles By now we’ve become used to the idea of a lockdown album. But one from Sir Paul McCartney? Well, that is a lovely surprise. McCartney surprised even himself with this album, for ‘McCartney III’ is the third in a trilogy of happy accidents. As with 1970’s ‘McCartney’ and 1980’s ‘McCartney II’, the 78-year-old didn’t set out to create an album in 2020. It just happened. Like ‘McCartney’, this is a one-man project and the former Beatle explores themes of home, love, and nature. The first, mostly instrumental, track takes inspiration from the latter, with pop tunes Find My Way and Pretty Boys following soon after.
