GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WWBT) - Gabe Henderson may not have been on the field with his teammates on Saturday, but his presence was certainly felt around the stadium.
Deep Run kicked off its season against J.R. Tucker, the Wildcatsâ first game since Henderson passed away in a boating accident last April. Every Deep Run helmet had a number 10 decal on one side, a sign hung on the bleachers, while a tribute to the receiver was written on the banner used for the teamâs entrance.

Virginians who are passionate about land conservation efforts and funding outdoor recreation projects may contribute to the Open Space Recreation and Conservation Fund by donating all, or a portion of, their state tax refunds.
The fund is made up entirely of voluntary contributions. Citizen contributions are used to acquire lands that preserve natural areas as well as for matching grants to local governments to fund outdoor recreation and conservation projects.
Deep Run, North Carolina
Deep Run is an unincorporated community in southern Lenoir County, North Carolina, United States. The town s estimated population is 3,013.
History
The village of Deep Run was incorporated in 1925 through 1928. The mayor of the town was Mr. Johnny Blizzard. At one time, the town was called Red Town, due to the number of houses with red tin roofs. A once thriving town, the town s charter was canceled by the North Carolina General Assembly in the 1970s, as the town failed to meet municipal standards. Today, Deep Run is still an agricultural area, with several businesses and light industries. The community provides a fire service, water and sewer, banking, and a postal route. The main thoroughfare through the area is the North Carolina Highway 11 Bypass.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reported a resident was shot late Wednesday afternoon in Deep Run.
According to LCSO Maj. Ryan Dawson, there was a shots fired/person shot call to 911 at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the 4300 block of N.C. 11 South in Deep Run. The victim sustained multiple injuries from the shooting, but the victim’s condition is not known at this time.
The LCSO is not releasing the victim’s name or the name of any suspect(s) due to the ongoing investigation.
Maj. Dawson said residents in the area are safe.
“There is no danger to the public at this time,” Dawson said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
