KURNOOL: Amid the gram panchayat elections, a majority of villages in Adoni and Kurnool divisions are seeing people migrating to the cities. Though poll candidates are requesting them to stay on till the completion of the polls, the workers are not showing any interest.
At least 15,000 families from the district have left to Guntur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and other cities. Some of the aspirants even offered money and other benefits to the workers to keep them back but in vain.
BSNL asked to improve services in rural areas

Hassan Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna instructed officers of BSNL to improve services in rural areas, as the delivery of government services was dependant on phone connectivity. He met them in Hassan on Saturday.
The BSNL has approval to put up 23 new towers. There is a need for another 160 in the district. BSNL has to improve its network in elephant-affected areas of Alur, Sakleshpur and Belur.
Deputy Commissioner R. Girish said the distribution of foodgrain and other services were dependant on the network. People had been facing difficulties because of network issues. He instructed BSNL officers to conduct a village-wise survey to check the network.
JAKARTA, Jan. 31 The Jakarta Post/ANN): The Jakarta administration is planning to open 17,900 new graves for Covid-19 victims in six locations after recording a recent increase in the number of burials in the past few weeks.
The administration will launch four cemetery expansion projects and open two new plots that will provide the city with 101,100 square meters of land an area equivalent to around 14 soccer fields for coronavirus victims.
The Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 12,001 within one day to 1,078,314, with the death toll adding by 270 to 29,998, the health ministry said on Sunday (Jan 31).
According to the ministry, 10,719 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 873,221.

Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Beloor Raghavendra Shetty on Monday said that he will discuss with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to bring artisans under government housing schemes.
Speaking after visiting Namma Bhoomi, a regional resource centre, and Namma Nalanda of “The Concerned for Working Children” near Hattiangadi in Kundapur taluk, Mr. Shetty said that he would also hold discussions with Housing Minister V. Somanna in this connection.
A tusker was captured and radio-collared in Sakleshpur on Tuesday.
The Forest Department staff have captured and radio-collared three elephants, including a tusker, in an operation that began last week. A tusker aged about 25 was captured at Mattur near Sakleshpur on Tuesday evening for radio-collaring.
Deputy Conservator of Forests K.N. Basavaraj told
The Hindu: “A problematic male elephant has been captured. It will be radio-collared and released in the remote wild area.” The operation to radio-collar four elephants and capture one tusker began on January 21. So far, two female and one male elephant have been radio-collared. “One more female will be radio-collared” the officer said. The elephants are radio-collared to track the movement of herds so that local people can be alerted. The department has a mechanism to send messages across the villages in Alur and Sakaleshpur taluks to inform people about movement of the herds.
