Night hours for El Cajon vaccination clinic
The county-run COVID-19 vaccination site at the East Public Health Center, 367 N. Magnolia Ave. in El Cajon, will start offering evening hours from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The clinic will be administering Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to people with and without appointments. People are welcome to drop in, whether for a first dose, or for a second dose that is a follow-up to a dose received elsewhere. Anyone age

Plastic shields around student desks have become a common feature in classrooms across San Diego County, but whether they improve COVID safety is still being debated, some say.
The desk barriers are one safety measure that experts and some school officials have backed away from in recent months, as experts have learned more about the virus and how it is most likely to transmit in schools.
Plexiglass barriers will not prevent the coronavirus from spreading because coronavirus travels mainly on aerosols in the air, which can travel around barriers, some authorities said.
One UC San Diego expert noted in a February advisory report to San Diego Unified that desk barriers are useful when students are less than six feet apart to prevent droplets from coughs or sneezes from traveling to other people. That does not matter much when students wear masks, which would stop droplets.
This collaboration aims to promote literacy and education by providing a wide range of resources to students who don t have a library card yet but could greatly benefit from the San Diego County Library s vast collection, Acosta said. We are excited to open up our digital collection to young residents who couldn t previously take advantage of it.
The county library already offers e-books, audiobooks and e-magazines 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to its patrons who download the Libby app which like the Sora app, is also made by the company OverDrive. In 2020, the library s digital circulation increased 56% to more than 3.2 million books and materials.
Starting March 15, their current Phase Three plan includes a single day of distance learning a week.
Alpine Union School Districts prides itself on being the first district in the state to fully vaccinate all their staff, said Dr. Richard Newman, AUSD Superintendent, who joined KUSI to discuss the homecoming.
The district’s hybrid model started in September 2020 with in-person classes two days a week, halving the number of students on campus at a time and allowing for social distancing.
Since bringing students back gradually, they have not had to close down again and have had zero COVID-19 outbreaks.
However, they have had COVID-19 cases and reported them to the San Diego County’s Public Health Services.
