American Chemical Society announces organizational changes
The American Chemical Society (ACS) announced a reorganization to better serve its membership, employees and the broader chemistry enterprise.
Rajendrani Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D., to lead new Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Respect
Rajendrani Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D., was promoted to Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Respect (DEIR) and will lead the new ACS Office of DEIR. She will report to ACS CEO Thomas Connelly Jr., Ph.D.
Creation of this new office will support DEIR efforts across ACS – supporting both internal and external activities. The existing Department of Diversity Programs will become part of the new ACS Office of DEIR.

For over 20 years, we have advocated for the increased engagement of Black Hoosiers in the political process through voter registration and education. We have traditionally held and continue to hold local forums on issues of concern including election reform, community violence and education.
In the last several years we have presented a collective voice on issues requiring an informed Black perspective. Nevertheless, it has become clear that inattention at the policy level to root causes has furthered deterioration of Black communities.
COVID, joblessness, food access not Black Hoosiers problems alone
We have been the last hired and the first fired, even when the economy was good. The Economic Policy Institute found that when the state unemployment rate was 3.5% in the third quarter of 2018, Black unemployment was at 5.4% while white unemployment was at 3.2%.

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Emma Jean Walls Price was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 21, 2021. “Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant!” (Matthew 25:21).
Born in Chattanooga on Sept. 20, 1944, to Jimmie and Geneva Walls, Emma lived a life of faith, love and graciousness.
Emma graduated with honors in 1962 from Howard High School and was awarded an academic scholarship to Tuskegee University where she earned her honors Bachelor of Science in Biology and was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, earning a Master of Science with honors in Counseling. Ms. Price dedicated forty years to the Chattanooga Public School System and Hamilton County Schools, teaching middle school science for seventeen years and serving as a middle and high school guidance counselor for twe
