Today, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the Honourable Bill Blair, announced almost $500,000 over four years to REACH Edmonton Council for Safe Communities (REACH Edmonton) for a collaborative project entitled Integrated Response for Victims of Sex Trafficking and Exploitation: Red Deer North, Alberta. This funding is made available under the Contribution Program to Combat Serious and Organized Crime.

A Nova Scotia man is facing human trafficking charges in Edmonton, after an extensive investigation by law enforcement in two provinces.
William Meuse, 31, is facing several charges related to human trafficking that allegedly happened in the Edmonton area in November and December 2019, according to a news release from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).
CALGARY Three Calgary women are facing charges after police seized an estimated $225,000 worth of drugs and cash, including more than three kilograms of methamphetamine. The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) Calgary organized crime and gang team made the arrests on March 30. Four homes were also searched, where police seized: 3,004 grams of methamphetamine; 279 grams of cocaine; 2 grams of fentanyl; $15,605 cash. “Meth is a harmful, addictive substance that undermines our community’s well-being. There is a strong correlation between meth and property crimes, which are used to finance these addictions,” said ALERT Calgary Staff Sgt. Jeff Ringelberg. Three women were arrested and are now facing charges.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with human trafficking offences following a joint investigation between Alberta and Nova Scotia.
The investigation by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) Human Trafficking and Exploitation Unit and Nova Scotia’s Provincial Human Trafficking Unit began in June 2020, after a woman contacted police.
