County Regional Fire Service asks residents to avoid burning - ReachFM: Peace Country s hub for local and Christian news, and adult contemporary Christian programming

Article continues below advertisement ↴ Due to the multiple fires recently responded to by Regional Fire Service related to risky burning practices, rapidly changing fire conditions and with forecasts of dry and windy conditions, County Fire is recommending that you not burn until conditions improve.    Conditions in the Grande Prairie Forest Protection Area are at High and Alberta Wildfire has issued an Advisory.     Fire Chief Dan Verdun suggests that you not burn unless you absolutely must or until we see some precipitation and conditions improve.    “We are not imposing an Advisory or Ban, we are simply asking the public to be aware of the dangerous fire conditions and only burn if you have to, or in approved pits while following all the conditions of a permit,” said Verdun.

Fire advisory in effect for Grande Prairie area - ReachFM: Peace Country s hub for local and Christian news, and adult contemporary Christian programming

(Courtesy Alberta Wildfire) Alberta Wildfire has issued a fire advisory for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.   The wildfire danger for the area is moderate, and they warn that high wind can cause extreme fire behavior and allow fires to spread easily.  With the fire advisory, all existing fire permits are still valid, but new permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning.  All burning, except for campfires, is prohibited if you don’t have a valid permit.   Alberta Wildfire reminds people to never leave their campfires unattended, and to soak, stir and soak again until cool to the touch to put them out.

Local Residents Create Plaques To Recognize First Responders Who Fought Horse River Widlfire

By Jaryn Vecchio Wildfire plaques for Fire Halls 1 and 5 // Photo via Lynne Stefanizyn A group of residents are recognizing all the first responders during the Horse River wildfire in a unique way. A recently discovered fallen log along Tower Road was cut, sanded, and turned into 24 plaques thanking those who helped everyone evacuate the community. This includes the four local Fire Halls and Emergency Services at Suncor, Syncrude, and CNRL. “In return you get… you see smiles,” said Lynne Stefanizyn. The idea came from Val Brayall, while her husband Greg and Randy Stefanizyn oversaw the heavy lifting. Their friend Mitchell ended up cutting the log with Nest Creations donating lettering for the plaques, while Sign Guru provided a sign which was set up at the downtown roundabout.
