CTICC: Facing an ever-changing future with hope and optimism
The Board and shareholders attending the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently heard an inspirational account of how, during unprecedented times, the CTICC has adapted its business to serve the people of the Western Cape.
“2020 was an unusual year; but like a chameleon responding to its changing environment, the CTICC adapted to the challenges presented by Covid-19,” said CEO Taubie Motlhabane. “We did this by pivoting our business practices, transforming operations and reigniting our passion for innovation. And, with the support of our various partners, we are cautiously optimistic. We are all going through a very tough time, but we are hopeful that brighter days are coming.”

Cape Town - Jinhua Municipal City in China has donated 19 boxes of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the City of Cape Town.
The 20 520 FFP 2 masks were handed over to Alderman Dan Plato, Mayor of the City of Cape Town, and Jemayne Andrews, the Mayor’s Office Director by Umesh Bawa, Director of the University of the Western Cape’s International Office; Dr Zeng Liren and Iris Wu, representatives of the Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine at UWC.
Mayor Dan Plato expressed his gratitude to Jinhua City for their profound friendship. He said that Cape Town has been affected by Covid-19 pandemic for almost a year and it has dealt a huge blow to the city s economy.

Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato has claimed that the devastating fire that ripped through the township of Masiphumele last week was started deliberately by land invaders.
Talking to a number of officials on-site who are of the opinion that the fire was caused by an alleged attempted land invasion.

Masiphumele resident Apish Tthsesh gives an eyewitness account of the situation of the ground following Thursday s fire.
As aid efforts get underway to help the thousands of people displaced by the devastating fire that ripped through Masiphumelele on Thursday, one local resident has described the scenes of devastation there this afternoon.
Apish Tthsesh lives in Masiphumele and is the co-founder of local NPO Waves for Change, a child-friendly mental health service that supports at-risk youth, many of whom also hail from the township.

The City says the latest fire in an informal settlement in Cape Town has left thousands of residents destitute.

The City of Cape Town says it s working around the clock to help residents of Masiphumelele in the Fish Hoek area after a fire tore through the settlement on Thursday.
Upwards of 1,000 dwellings were damaged or destroyed in the blaze.
