Exciting news from this past week is a possible new state-record yellow perch from Lake Erie. Kirk Rudzinski, owner of East End Angler, was fishing in 44 feet of water off the Cribs when the monster perch grabbed his bait. The fish was weighed on certified digital scales and officially identified by the local WCO; the notarized application and statements will be mailed to Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to await review.
And speaking of perch, multiple sources have big perch in 40 and 55 feet of water east of the peninsula. The fish are in small packs, and are moving about quite a bit rather than staying in one location; many females are still carrying eggs, while others appear spawned out. The 12 scorable bass that Alton Jones caught in the Championship Round at Heavy Hitters were four more than anyone else in the Top-10 field managed.
By MLF Communications Staff It was a sight-fishing clinic on Shearon Harris Reservoir in Raleigh, N.C. on Wednesday, and Alton Jones was the professor. The Texas angler boated 12 bass weighing 45-09 to dominate the Championship Round and win the top prize of $100,000 at the Major League Fishing Heavy Hitters event.
Jones won by a 15-05 margin over fellow Texan Jeff Sprague, who caught eight bass totaling 30-04. Sprague, however, was not disappointed in his finish as he earned the top Big Bass Bonus of $100,000 with a 5-03 largemouth.
Wheeler Wins $50K bonus, Morgan Tops KO Round

By MLF Communications Staff Jacob Wheeler boated a 7 1/2-pound largemouth Tuesday afternoon on Shearon Harris Reservoir, the largest fish of the day, to win $50,000 at the Major League Fishing Heavy Hitters event in Raleigh, N.C. Wheeler finished the Knockout Round in 2nd place and punched his ticket sraight to Wednesdays Championship Round.
50 Gs, heck yeah, that is unreal, Wheeler said in his post-game interview. That will be a fish that I remember for the rest of my life. I was cruising down the bank and when I saw that fish, I literally stopped and was like Whoa, thats a $50,000 bass.

A stressful day for Bryan Thrift had a happy conclusion as he caught enough weight to win the Group B Qualifying Round at the MLF Heavy Hitters event in North Carolina.
By MLF Communications Staff Bryan Thrift caught five scorable bass totaling 17-15 to win the two-day Group B Qualifying Round at the MLF Heavy Hitters event in Raleigh, N.C. Thrifts two-day total of 18 bass weighing 62-06 earned him the round win by an 11-14 margin and advances him straight into Wednesdays Championship Round of competition.
