The Alton Square Mall, shown in this file photo, is losing women’s clothing retailer Christopher & Banks. The chain is closing about 400 strores nationwide, including those in Alton and Fairview Heights.
ALTON Christopher and Banks’ Alton Square Mall location is among the 400-plus stores the chain is closing nationwide.
The Minnesota-based women’s clothing retailer on Thursday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
“Since the start of the COVID pandemic, we have taken aggressive steps to protect our business while continuing to serve our customers in a healthy and safe environment,” said Keri Jones, the firm’s president and chief executive officer, in a released statement. “Despite the tremendous advancements we have made in executing our strategic plan, due to the financial distress resulting from the pandemic and its ongoing impact, we elected to initiate this process and pursue a potent

Established in Birmingham, Michigan in 1970, Olga’s Kitchen was the result of a dream of founder Olga Loizon after returning from a trip to Greece. Owned and operated by TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), the brand has 24 locations, all but the Alton restaurant are in Michigan.

While you can still see Santa Claus at Alton Square Mall, other holiday special events are not happening this year. It’s all because of the pandemic, but a spokesman for the mall’s owner remains optimistic.
