Aldie Counseling severs contract with Bucks County

Not anymore. Earlier this month, the clinic with offices in Doylestown and Langhorne  severed its county agreement, alerting the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission Jan. 14 that it would no longer accept residents funded by the county. This year we’ve had plenty of setbacks; you couldn’t have chosen a worse time to do something like this, said current patient Rachael Jones, 33, who credits Aldie and the county funding that paid for her treatment for her seven years of success in recovery.  Over the past few days, patients have being warned that they have two months to decide where to continue their treatment or whether they want to stay at a discounted rate, Jones said.

Court ruling against safe injection site a victory, say local experts – Catholic Philly

(Liz Masoner/Pixabay) By Gina Christian • Posted January 14, 2021 A new legal decision against a proposed safe injection site in Philadelphia is being welcomed by several area faithful. On Tuesday, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the nonprofit Safehouse would violate the federal “crack house” statute (part of the 1986 Anti-Drug Abuse Act) by opening a facility for supervised intravenous consumption of illegal drugs. “It is a correct statement by the court,” said bioethicist Steven Bozza, director of the archdiocesan Office for Life and Family. “Thank God for this victory,” said Father Douglas McKay, founder and chaplain of Our House Ministries, a Catholic-based recovery outreach in the Grays Ferry section of the city. “We shouldn’t be going in the direction of safe injection sites. It’s a form of euthanasia.”

Pennsylvania among booziest states during holidays, NH among the least

Pennsylvanians and booze at the holidays go together like Santa Claus and his red suit, according to a couple of recent surveys. The Keystone State is one of the drunkest places in the U.S. during the holiday season, with the average Pennsylvanian quaffing four alcoholic beverages a day, according to a November survey by Sunrise House, a New Jersey-based addiction center. A different survey by Addiction-Treatment shows Pennsylvanians on average drink five consecutive days over the holidays. Both surveys included responses from 3,000 people over the age of 21. That holiday revelry, however, doesn t necessarily extend to bars and restaurants — which have been struggling for most of 2020 under pandemic-related restrictions.
