When Calvary Chapel of Bangor filed its lawsuit in May, the governorâs orders permitted no religious gatherings, including parking lot services, and violations carried criminal penalties of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

In the first request for an injunction pending appeal, the Ninth Circuit ruled 2-1 against the churches, but that decision was set aside by the Supreme Court, which ordered the lower court to reconsider its ruling following the High Court decision involving New York churches and synagogues.

Los Angeles Finally Agrees to Supreme Court Worship Ruling: No Pastor, Church. Should Have to Choose Between Worship and Prison

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Health Department finally dropped the county s COVID restrictions against religious gatherings and also removed the attendance limits on worship services.
The Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit religious rights law firm, said the county s public health department issued a Revised Temporary Order that specifies that houses of worship in Los Angeles can now conduct services indoors with no numerical or percentage caps and only social distancing between separate households.
LA County officials took this action after waiting nearly a month since the US Supreme Court ruled these types of restrictions are wrong.
