Covid-19: Middlesbrough school shut for a week after number of cases

By Rachel Conner-Hill echorachelc Chief Reporter (Tees Valley & North Yorkshire) Kings Academy in Coulby Newham is closed all week following a number of covid cases A MIDDLESBROUGH secondary school is closing for the rest of the week after a small number of positive Covid-19 tests.  Kings Academy in Coulby Newham will provide online learning from Tuesday to Friday following the confirmation of the cases.  The decision has been taken in consultation with Middlesbrough Council due to the fact the cases are spread across different year groups. The council says it is working with the Department of Health and Social Care to arrange for a mobile testing unit to be positioned at the school.

North Ayrshire Covid: Kilwinning Academy contact tracing underway

Contact tracing is currently being carried out at Kilwinning Academy. An NHS Public Health Consultant confirmed that contact tracing is underway within the school community and that close contacts are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and being asked to self-isolate at home. Close contacts identified through the Test and Protect process are being advised to self-isolate for 10 days by the Test and Protect Team. Elvira Garcia, Consultant in Public Health said: NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is currently conducting a contact tracing exercise with links to Kilwinning Academy in the North Ayrshire Council area. We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

Testing ramped up in Grantown-on-Spey after cluster of Covid cases

Asymptomatic testing is being made available in Granton-on-Spey following a cluster of cases of a new Covid-19 variant Testing is being ramped up in an area of the Highlands following a cluster of cases of Covid-19. NHS Highland said asymptomatic testing was being made available in Grantown-on-Spey, near Aviemore, after cases of a new variant were identified. The board said it was not one of the main strains currently circulating the UK. The health board said: While no further cases have been identified to date, and the confirmed cases are small in number, due to these cases being a variant, enhanced contact tracing and additional PCR testingis now being carried out to check that there has been no spread within the wider community.

Updated: Fri 26th Feb New law coming into force that makes all hospital sites smoke-free from next week People living across North Wales are being reminded that all hospital grounds in the region will become smoke-free from Monday. New laws, being introduced across Wales on 1st March, build on the smoking ban introduced in 2007 and will protect more people from harmful second-hand smoke and help those trying to quit. The new law means that all parts of the hospital grounds will be smoke-free. Anyone found breaking the law by smoking in the hospital grounds could face a £100 fine. Richard Firth, Consultant in Public Health, said: “This is great news for the people of North Wales and an important step forward in terms of protecting patients, visitors and staff in our hospital grounds.
