Letter to the Editor Sunday, May 23, 2021 Dear Editor, I am writing in reference to this week’s cover story regarding Cape’s Dam, and I am yet again disgusted by the promotion of misinformation wielded by the power of the press on this pivotal environmental issue. The attempted defamation of Councilmember Derrick was egregious, unwarranted, downright petty and wrong. To be clear: Melissa Derrick is one of the only river warriors we have represented on the San Marcos City Council, and she absolutely supports science. Real science. Not “science.” There’s a huge actually statistically significant difference.

Council OKs Cape s Dam agreement with county

Leave out the science. That’s what one San Marcos City Councilmember suggested when discussing the Cape s Dam Complex. During the recent city council meeting Tuesday, councilmember Melissa Derrick said during the approval of an interlocal agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of San Marcos and Hays County to leave the science out of the discussion. I would like to strike one of the whereas. Where it says, whereas the scientific community has also pointed out that the flow rate and the main channel of the San Marcos River in the Mill Race are important factors to consider in the protection of river wildlife, etc. That is not the science for which a lot of scientists believe, Derrick said. I think that we need to leave the science out of this.

Vandals strike again at Ballinamallard walkway

LOCAL politicians and members of the community of Ballinamallard have shared their outrage at the wanton vandalism of a walkway on the outskirts of the village – the second such case to be reported in the past month. Erne North Neighbourhood policing team discovered the new damage to the Mill Race walkway on the Kilskeery Road, Ballinamallard on Sunday (May 2). This follows only a few weeks after police put out an appeal for witnesses following reports of criminal damage to the walkway, where a bridge and fences had been vandalised. In a statement to The Impartial Reporter on May 6, a PSNI spokeswoman said: Erne North Neighbourhood Policing Team are aware of damage to the Mill Race walk in the Ballinamallard area which is believed to have taken place within the past five to seven days.

Courtesy-exhibitcolumbus.org COLUMBUS, Ind. – Director of Exhibit Columbus Anne Surak briefed the Columbus Parks and Recreation Board on Thursday afternoon about the sequence of events and general developments of this year’s exposition. The 2021 show consists of three events: a symposium, to which thinkers and leaders in the design field are invited, presentations by exhibit designers on the Exhibit Columbus YouTube channel, and the exhibition itself. Surak said her organization hopes that as the pandemic eases, the exhibit this summer and fall can once again kick off with a gala party on August 21 in Mill Race Park. There will be three main areas within the park that will host presentations and they include the entrance, the tower, and the open area.
