Elephants are gentle giants that are often taken advantage of by human beings. The endangered animals are trophy-hunted, pushed out of their natural habitat, poached for their ivory, neglected in zoos, exploited for various tourist attractions, and forced to perform in circuses. There are some amazing, credible sanctuaries out there for elephants, however, there are also many zoos that masquerade their cruel work as conservation and education.

Unfortunately, species that are classified as “farmed animals,” such as cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens, rarely get a fighting chance for survival.
Most are born on factory farms with a certain fate of slaughter long before their expected life span. These animals are typically forced to stay in cramped, filthy quarters where they are treated as objects rather than living beings. Farmed animals are treated far worse than other companion animals like cats or dogs, and most of society has come to accept that mistreatment as normal. Menker is a former Morgan Stanley commodities trader turned CEO. Gro Intelligence forecasts and provide data on agriculture sectors. Uncovered data found the industry vulnerable to crises including the coronavirus pandemic and climate change.

“COVID exposed how fragile our food systems really are,” says Menker in Yahoo! Finance, “How they’re built on very short-term thinking. Most food transactions are still done on a week-to-week, month-to-month, day-to-day basis. So that means that like, something goes wrong, the system breaks.”
