La Mama presented poetry for the first time in 1967, now curated by Amanda Anastasi, La Mama Poetica remains a night of some of the best spoken word and poetry that Melbourne has to offer, with a diverse selection of both emerging and established poets.
Ouyang Yu has published 128 books in both English and Chinese encompassing poetry, fiction, non-fiction, literary translation and criticism. His 2nd book of poetry ‘Songs of the Last Chinese Poet’ was shortlisted in the 1999 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards and his 3rd novel ‘The English Class’ won the 2011 NSW Premier’s Award.
Meet the author – discussion with Alice Allan Join MARCH members and Alice Allan for a discussion about her novel “Open My Eyes”, a story set in Ethiopia about abandonment and loss. The book contains various child/maternal themes worth reflecting on. Alice will also share thoughts about her time as a lactation consultant in public hospitals in Addis Ababa. Do join, even if you have not yet read the book!
The event will begin with a presentation by the speaker, followed by a discussion and Q&A.

The Celtic Connections online festival will begin one week today.
Across 19 days, the festival will present over 30 online performances between Friday January 15 and Tuesday February 2 2021.
