Australian Sprinter runs one of the fastest times in HISTORY Charlotte Karp For Daily Mail Australia © Provided by Daily Mail MailOnline logo A young Australian sprinter has stunned the world by running the sixth fastest time for the 1500m race by anyone in history to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Oliver Hoare shocked spectators and race callers at the 2021 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York on Sunday when he bolted past his opponents in the final lap. The 24-year-old, from Caringbah in south Sydney, was barely mentioned by the commentator until he exploded from the pack and hit the finish line, leaving the other athletes trailing metres behind.

Frothing, fizzing, buzzing , Sam Tanner, 20, smashes NZ 1500m record held by Nick Willis

”I am frothing, fizzing, buzzing … everything. I’m just super over the moon. I was hoping for an Olympic qualification, we worked hard and got it, so I’m super stoked.” The achievement was a personal best for the young Kiwi by nearly 2 seconds (he ran 3:36.44 in Tauranga on January 1) and also a US collegiate record. No Oceania runner had ever ducked under 3:35 indoors before, but both Tanner and race winner Oliver Hoare of Australia did so in New York on Sunday (NZT). Supplied/Stuff Sam Tanner. Hoare won in a national record 3:32.35, with Britain’s Jake Wightman holding off Tanner for second in 3:34.48.
