Childhood friend of Daniel Kinahan due in court over €20K cash in transit robbery

A man is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning charged in relation to a cash in transit robbery that took place in Dublin. The man, aged in his 30s and from the south inner city, was a childhood friend of cartel boss Daniel Kinahan. He was arrested yesterday morning by gardai investigating the robbery that took place on December 15 on Thomas Street, Dublin 8. A second man, aged in his late teens, who was also arrested in relation to the robbery, has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A childhood friend of cartel boss Daniel Kinahan remained in garda custody tonight after he and a teenage relative were arrested over a €20,000 cash-in-transit robbery. During the robbery a security staff member was collecting a cash box from a retail premises on Thomas Street in Dublin at around 12.45pm on Tuesday of last week. As he was returning to a security van he was approached and threatened by a lone man armed with a hammer. This man took a cash box from the security man before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. No one was physically harmed in the raid and none of the cash has been recovered.
