Truck hits TVA electrical tower; city loses power
Oakridger
A widespread power outage hit Oak Ridge Friday just before 4:30 p.m. after a pickup truck hit a TVA electrical transmission tower at the intersection of South Illinois Avenue/state Highway 62 and Union Valley Road.
Traffic was backed up for miles on South Illinois Avenue, and drivers were being redirected, according to a city of Oak Ridge news release issued at 5:47 p.m. Friday. Power was restored to parts of Oak Ridge around 5:20 p.m. and, according to the city release, electricity was expected to be restored to the rest of the city within the next two hours. The exception to the two-hour power restoration, according to the city release, would be the far southeast corner of the city, which was expected to take more time.
The forgotten Revolutionary War heroes of the Oak Ridge Reservation
Dennis Eggert and D. Ray Smith/Special to The Oak Ridger
My friends Fred Eiler and Dennis Eggert have shared their research into the Revolutionary War soldiers who are known to be buried in cemeteries located within the city limits of Oak Ridge. Dennis has compiled the information below for “Historically Speaking.” I am pleased to bring this information to you readers. I also hope we can properly recognize these Revolutionary War veterans with at least one historical marker.
I have long been interested in recognizing these individuals, but did not have the needed information to confirm the location of the burials. Thanks to Dennis for compiling the results of much research. Enjoy the first half of Dennis’ report on these soldiers and their resting places.

What do Andy Williams, Judy Garland, Perry Como, The Carpenters, and Levi Kreis have in common? They have all had their own holiday TV special. Oak Ridge Playhouse has joined forces with Tony Award-winner Levi Kreis once again to bring you his 6th annual “Home for the Holidays” concert. This streamed concert will come directly to your home.
The evening is inspired by television specials of days gone by, but still incorporates that genuine storytelling and that distinct sound Levi, an Oliver Springs native, is associated with.
