Like her, I prefer a mostly ceremonial head of state (like we currently have) with political decisions being made in the Parliament and not, potentially, at the whim of a popularly-elected narcissist. Unfortunately, the postface to the article identifies her as “a former minister of the Howard government”. I can’t recall her standing up to Howard when he scuttled the 1999 republic referendum by forcing those in favour of a republic to choose that model rather than having separate choices for a republic and the model to be adopted. -
