The Brinton Museum will present an exhibit of paintings by the award winning Wyoming artist T. Allen Lawson, on display in the S. K. Johnston, Jr. Family Gallery beginning May 15, and continuing through Labor Day.
“Recollections and Reflections” is part retrospective, part new work, by a nationally recognized, highly- talented contemporary artist of the region.
Currently, Lawson splits his time between the family farm in Maine and the rest of the year in Sheridan. Both give him a unique balance, a means by which to make an emotional connection between a subject and art.
According to Lawson’s own words, moving between Maine and Wyoming offers him a “different perspective.”
Pro-Cannabis Ballot Initiative Killed by Florida Supreme Court
On April 22nd, Florida Supreme Court justices voted 5-2, effectively blocking a marijuana legalization proposal from appearing in front of voters in November 2022.
The constitutional ballot initiative, led by the ‘Make It Legal Florida’ activist group, would’ve allowed Florida residents to decide on the issue of adult-use cannabis. The proposal, if passed, would permit, “adults 21 years or older to possess, use, purchase, display, and transport up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and marijuana accessories for personal use for any reason,” and open up recreational sales opportunities for medical marijuana dispensaries in Florida.
Florida Supreme Court Deals Blow to Marijuana Ballot Initiative April 26, 2021
The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday dealt a potentially fatal blow to supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at legalizing recreational marijuana under certain circumstances.
The justices ruled that the initiative’s ballot summary is “misleading” in part because it does not spell out that recreational marijuana possession and distribution remains a federal crime.
“The point is that a summary should not contain language that is affirmatively misleading and creates a risk that voters will be confused,” the majority justices wrote in a 5-2 ruling.
The ruling came after Attorney General Ashley Moody requested an advisory opinion on whether the marijuana initiative was valid.
Florida Supreme Court Rejects Ballot Initiative Aimed at Legalizing Recreational Marijuana
The Florida Supreme Court on April 22 rejected a ballot initiative (pdf) aimed at allowing people to vote on the legalization of recreational marijuana, saying it would be “misleading” to voters.
In a 5-2 ruling, the Supreme Court said the initiative’s language wording that people see when they cast ballots that it “permits” marijuana use by adults “misleads voters into believing that the recreational use of marijuana in Florida will be free of any repercussions, criminal or otherwise.”
The ruling came after Republican Attorney General Ashley Moody asked the court to advise whether the potential constitutional initiative would be suitable for a future ballot.
