Pointing to low salmon forecasts, Trident to keep Wrangell plant closed

One of Wrangell’s two fish processors will remain closed for the second year in a row. Seattle-based Trident Seafoods cites a dismal salmon forecast for its decision.

Chum and pink salmon returns to Southeast Alaska over the last few years have crumpled, and the predictions for the coming season aren’t especially heartening.
“It’s been a real disaster around here,” says Wrangell commercial fisherman Gig Decker. “I mean, my main income has been the dogs the chum salmon and the runs just haven’t been coming back. They don’t know if it’s because of the blob or warming or what it is, but the biologists don’t seem to have a lot of optimism about it.”

CARLISLE COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - A man on a motorcycle was arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase on Thursday, March 11.
Alen Reeves, 42, of Hickory, was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence - second offense, speeding 26 miles per hour or greater, no operator’s license, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, no insurance, disregarding a stop sign and no registration.

Rochdale-based culture and leisure charity, Link4Life is offering online activity sessions to the borough’s older adults and offering free advice to those struggling in an increasingly-virtual world.
The charity launched ‘Link4Life at Home’ during the first lockdown to offer a virtual alternative to the pre-pandemic sessions, which take place at Link4Life’s venues, helping people stay active, creative and healthy at home. This virtual support is planned to continue for the foreseeable future to ensure accessibility for all.
Harold Desmond Des Shelley Passed away on Wednesday 20 January 2021 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire, after succumbing to a long-standing battle with pneumonia, aged 92 years. Known by many as a “Local Legend,” a kind soul, selfless and dependable, Allen Reeves is simply doing what he believes to be the right thing.
The 41-year-old Riverbank High graduate and Oakdale community member, however, has taken something upon himself which few, if any would consider. Allen returns abandoned grocery carts to their homes … on a bicycle. One at a time, seven days a week, if Allen happens by a stray cart he finds it his mission to return it to the store from which it came.
