Stephanie Murphy undeterred by Val Demings Senate bid

Stephanie Murphy undeterred by Val Demings’ Senate bid U.S. Rep.  Val Demings decision to run for U.S. Senate next year may scare off some candidates, but U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy is not one of them. While Demings is certainly a high-caliber candidate for Democrats to rally behind as they seek to boot Republican U.S. Sen.  Marco Rubio from office. However, sources familiar with Murphy’s decision-making say the Central Florida Democrat believes she has the same upsides as Demings — and more. Murphy has been positioning herself for a statewide run for months. While Demings had until recently been considered a potential gubernatorial candidate, Murphy’s has been speculated to run for the U.S. Senate from the jump.

As he has so often in the past, Alan Grayson is itching for a fight. For the second time, he is about to run against Florida’s incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio. Grayson, 63, a pugnacious, progressive and former three-term representative from Orlando, is almost certain to join the Democratic challenge to Rubio in a race that is expected to cost more than $50 million. Florida Democrats gear up to challenge Rubio for Senate seat

(Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call/Bloomberg via Getty Images) The Florida Senate race is heating up as Democrats prepare an effort to unseat Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in hopes of gaining seats in the evenly-split Senate in 2022.  On the other side of the aisle, Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) will announce her bid as early as next month, according to Politico. Demings, the first Black woman to serve as Orlando’s police chief,  has held her House seat for two terms.  Demings rose to prominence as a prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment trial. She already has support from outside groups, including from The Collective PAC, a group dedicated to help Black candidates. She raised approximately $1.9 million in 2020, with around half from large individual donations, and was not a prolific fundraiser as a House member before that election. Demings is more moderate than some of her progressive colleagues, and it remains to be seen whether her background in law enforcement will hurt her ability
