A week after winter weather crippled the state s electric grid and knocked out power and water to residents, Bexar County officials are beginning to assess how CPS Energy and the San Antonio Water System might have fallen short in responding to the emergency.
At the same time, SAWS is paying a public relations firm owned by Bexar County Commissioner Trish DeBerry, who took office in January. DeBerry’s firm, the DeBerry Group, signed a one-year, $175,000 extension on its marketing contract with the water utility last October, while DeBerry was running for office.
