A town is breathing a sigh of relief after homes and businesses escaped largely unscathed from the worst flooding seen for decades.
People in Thetford were left fearing the worst on Boxing Day evening as hundreds in the area were told to flee their homes following heavy rainfall.
With the River Thet said to have burst its banks for the first time in 50 years, and water levels on the Little Ouse River rising rapidly, the same message was given to dozens of families in Brandon and Hockwold.

Police have issued a warning to motorists
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in Barrowford Road, Barrowford, at the junction with Riverside Way, where a motorcyclist received minor injuries as a result of an incident.
However, whilst officers were a thet scene, a driver was seen by officers, holding up a mobile phone in one hand, steering with the other and videoing the scene as she passed.
A police spokesman said: Incredibly she passed by a couple of minutes later, videoing once again. She was stopped and dealt with for road traffic offences. Not only is it very dangerous to not be in proper control of your vehicle but please think of the possible impact on somebody if they are finding out that a loved one has been hurt in a road traffic collision because somebody is sharing photos and videos on social media.
A NEW cycle and walking path is now set to break down the barrier of the bypass after plans were approved. The proposal for a new all-purpose path connecting the Tarryholme area with the Riverside Way was backed by council bosses, who hope to link up the area to the i3 enterprise site and connect both sides of the A78. The application to construct the three-metre wide cycle and footpath link was approved subject to conditions last week after it was submitted by North Ayrshire Council’s Active Travel and Transport team. The proposal documents state: “The land that we wish to build our active travel path on currently belongs to Scottish Enterprise.
