The Jefferson City School District and Columbia Public Schools were among several in Mid-Missouri that called off Tuesday sessions by mid-afternoon Monday as snow continued to blanket the region and temperatures hovered near zero degrees. Fulton Public Schools also called off school Tuesday.
At least two dozen area schools had canceled their Tuesday classes by 2 p.m. Monday. CPS alerted families just before 3 p.m. that it would not be in session Tuesday, with JC Schools putting out the word on Twitter about 20 minutes later. The weather also shut down area college and university campuses, pushing many classes online. Doctors offices and community organizations also had to shut their doors.

The smooth sailing continued for 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative s solar energy project at Wednesday s Lyon County Commission meeting.
Commissioners approved the solar energy facility in the 2700 block of Road M. 4 Rivers General Manager Dennis Svanes has touted the cost savings at the customer and cooperative level since this was announced before Thanksgiving.

Svanes says 4 Rivers will pass those savings on to its customers as soon as the project is generating power, which could be as soon as early June.
The so-called sun farm will be built near 4 Rivers Americus substation and will also provide power to the Thunderbird substation west of Emporia. Construction could begin next month.
Dr. Ladun Oyenuga will take over as Lyon Countyâs Public Health Officer at the start of the New Year.
Oyenuga was appointed by Lyon County Commissioners Wednesday morning after a discussion between Newman Regional Health CEO Bob Wright, Infection Preventionist Ester Knobloch and Oyenuga. Her appointment begins Jan. 1, 2021.
Oyenuga is a hospitalist at Newman Regional Health and has been working with the hospital since 2017. She received her degree undergraduate degree and medical education from Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Ogun State, Nigeria and completed her residency at Harlem Hospital Center in New York, New York. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
