LANSING, MI Legislation that would simplify seawall permitting during high water periods on the Great Lakes and codify the state’s authority to regulate structures at the beach has drawn some intraparty fire from Republicans who are upset the bill no longer allow property owners to install erosion protections without getting a permit.
Senate Bill 61 is sponsored by Sen. Roger Victory, R-Hudsonville. It’s backed by state regulators under Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who called the Republican legislation a “compromise” they support out of a desire to clear up jurisdictional confusion around the state’s authority to manage shoreline protection structures like boulder revetments.

LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) â A new bill introduced in the Michigan House will allow lottery winners to remain anonymous in Michigan.
Currently, Michigan law doesn t permit lottery winners to remain anonymous.
âThis is all about providing safety and ensuring winners of these types of games do not receive unwanted, possibly dangerous attention,â Outman said in a release. âThe bill would allow those who win the lottery to have the choice to keep their identities anonymous. Allowing a privacy option gives people a more secure feeling and does not leave them open to harassment or a flood of requests for funds, loans or donations.â
New bill would overturn Michigan lottery rule, allow winners to collect money anonymously
By Jack Nissen
Rep. Pat Outman (R-Six Lakes) (Michigan House Republicans)
Rep. Pat Outman, (R-Six Lakes), says those that win multi-state games like Mega Millions and Powerball have a right to remain anonymous, and allowing a privacy option for winners offers further safety. Allowing a privacy option gives people a more secure feeling and does not leave them open to harassment or a flood of requests for funds, loans or donations, he said in a statement.
Under Outman s bill, lottery winners like the lucky Michigander who scored a $1 billion jackpot last month wouldn t have to hand over their personal information unless they agreed to disclose those details.
