NEW ORLEANS A Thursday evening shooting in New Orleans left a man dead, a police spokesperson said. New Orleans Police Department investigators have begun investigating the fatal shooting.
The shooting happened at about 5:36 p.m. in Little Woods, a residential area in New Orleans East the police spokesperson said.
First reports from investigators place the shooting in the 7700 block of Briarwood Drive, which falls between Curran Road and Tricia Court.

A man was shot to death Saturday evening (July 17) on Baronne Street in Central City, the New Orleans Police Department reported.
At about 9:15 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of gunfire in the 2200 block Baronne Street, near Jackson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
The police said the victim had been in a physical altercation with another man, who took out a gun and reportedly shot the victim multiple times.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family. No further information was immediately available.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) A baby found dead Saturday evening in New Orleans had been stabbed, police said.
A woman was also taken away from the scene for further evaluation, according to a New Orleans police news release. Police said no other details about what happened were immediately available.
The baby was found in the basket of a bicycle, news outlets reported.
The Orleans Parish Coroner s Office was expected to perform an autopsy on the infant to determine the official cause of death.
Neither the baby nor the woman were identified.
