ACPD Investigating Robbery Near Police HQ

Arlington police are investigating a robbery that happened in the Courthouse area, just two blocks from police headquarters. Police say a man followed a woman off of a bus and then forcefully stole her purse, pulling her to the ground and down a set of stairs in the process. The masked man fled with the purse, along with a red duffle bag and dark backpack that he was carrying. The woman suffered minor injuries. The incident happened on Wednesday, Jan. 20, just after 7 p.m. The Arlington County Police Department released more information about the crime and surveillance photos of the suspect Thursday afternoon.

Police: Shot Fired During Saturday Night Robbery in Arlington Ridge

January 24, 2021 at 3:55pm A man fired a gunshot while robbing a woman of her purse Saturday night in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood, near Pentagon City, according to Arlington County police. Police say the man approached the woman after she parked her car on near the corner of S. Kent Street and 21st Street S. He demanded the purse and a struggle ensued, during which the suspect fired a single gunshot. No one was struck and the suspect fled with the purse. Anyone with information about the case or the suspect is asked to call the Arlington County Police Department. More from ACPD:

BREAKING: Police Release Surveillance Video of Person of Interest in Ballston Murder

January 15, 2021 at 10:25am Police are releasing new photos, video and information in the year-old unsolved murder of a 24-year-old man in a Ballston apartment. Scott Ratigan was founded bloodied and unresponsive in his bedroom, at the AVA Ballston Square apartment building (850 N. Randolph Street), around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2020. Police now say he suffered “trauma to the upper body.” ARLnow reported at the time that the 911 caller now identified as a relative of Ratigan reported a strong smell of bleach in the apartment. Police now say that “evidence recovered at the scene indicates the suspect(s) attempted to clean the crime scene prior to fleeing the residence.”

Arlington Police Investigate Discharge of a Firearm during Armed Robbery

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating an Armed Robbery and Attempted Malicious Wounding in the Fairlington neighborhood that took place on the evening of Dec. 5, 2020. At approximately 9:48 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2800 block of S. Buchanan Street for the report of an armed robbery. The investigation revealed the female victim and two unknown male suspects were meeting at the location for the pre-arranged sale of narcotics. Suspect One approached the victim and engaged her in conversation. Suspect Two then approached, knocked her to the ground, brandished a firearm and demanded cash before stealing her purse. The suspects fled the scene on foot and fired a single shot in the direction of the victim. She was not injured. A perimeter was established by responding officers and a canvas of the area returned with negative results.
