Nseobong Okon-Ekong holds a conversation with Dr. Godwin Maduka, the triple professor famed for transforming his homestead, Umuchukwu in Orumba South local government area of Anambra State into an emerging city, on issues around his quest to win the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party and his ultimate ambition of governing the state
What are the likely pitfalls that you advise your party to move away from as it approaches the critical stage of selecting a governorship candidate?
The North is about finishing its eight years. Anambra Central was there before now. It is the turn of the South. Every party that I know in Anambra State is adhering to that zoning. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not saying yes or no. I advise them to listen to the zoning process that favours the South. If they donât, then they might suffer the consequences at the voting booth

The raging war of words between former governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, and the incumbent, Willie Obiano, over who served the state better has taken a dramatic turn with Ngige described as an opportunist who rode to power on a tiger’s back and eventually ended up in its stomach.
Shrugging off Senator Ngige’s endless attacks on his boss, James Eze, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Obiano, observed that “throughout history, great political leaders spoke to the future through solid legacies.
“They built monuments that neither time nor toxic politics can erode. Leaders who spend enormous time reminding the people about their achievements after leaving office are often some opportunists who rode to power on a tiger’s back and eventually ended up in its stomach.”
Pius Anyim; the many challenges of ‘a gold fish’

Nigeria’s former senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim rarely comes across as a politician. Indeed he is not the usual player of the political game. A very dedicated member of the Assemblies of God Church, whose life practically revolves around work and worship, he is an oddity in a field dominated by showy men and women.
But since he burst into the scene of the country’s political theatre, the publicity shy, taciturn statesman, has continued to prove an actor of immense dexterity. His giant strides are particularly enthralling given his very humble background.
Last week, the monarch of Igbariam community in Anambra North senatorial District bowed to death, eight days after his suspension by the Anambra State Government was lifted. David-Chyddy Eleke examines the incidents that preceded his demise
On January 4th, the people of Igbariam community in Anambra East local government area of the state converged on the royal square of the monarch of the community, Igwe Kelly Nkeli Nzekwe for his traditional Ofala ceremony. It was a happy moment for the monarch and also for his subjects who converged to celebrate him. The moment was particularly unique for them because the monarch was just coming out of over three months suspension slammed on him by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano. But unknown to them, that at a time when they thought the monarch has regained control of his throne, he would suddenly bow out. He died just three days after the Ofala festival.
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has lifted the suspension of three traditional rulers in the state.
The three traditional rulers were among the 12 suspended in September last year for allegedly traveling out of their domain to Abuja, without permission from the governor.
The monarchs had joined billionaire oil mogul, Arthur Eze on a trip to Abuja to visit President Muhammadu Buhari.
Obiano who was then at feud with Eze for accusing him of shortchanging monarchs in the state brought the hammer down on the monarchs for alleged insubordination to him by the monarchs.
But in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Greg Obi, the governor lifted the one year suspension slammed on three of the traditional rulers involved.
