17:00 | Lima, May. 11. From now on, COVID-19 vaccinators will have to show the syringe filled with the vaccine to patients before its administration, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced on Tuesday.
After a possible theft of vaccines reported at health centers in the capital city, the ministry held a press conference to state that from now on vaccinators will have to show the syringe containing the corresponding dose before its administration. The protocol clearly states that health workers have to show the syringe to the person receiving the vaccine. If the person is accompanied by a relative, the personnel must show it to the companion before proceeding to the inoculation, Minsa s spokesperson, Arturo Granados, explained.
2021/05/12 08:03 LIMA, Peru (AP) Peru s Health Ministry said Tuesday it is investigating nurses who are accused of trying to inoculate patients with empty syringes during the country s coronavirus vaccination campaign. The ministry said the three known cases were reported in the capital during a campaign that began in March to apply more than 2 million shots. “These three cases are fully identified, both the people and the places,” said Health Ministry spokesman Arturo Granados. He declined to identify the nurses involved and said the results of an investigation would be released Thursday. Authorities haven t provided a motive for the allegedly flawed vaccinations, though President Francisco Sagasti said Tuesday that it “is something very worrisome and could even be criminal in some cases.”
The WHO said a sample database from nations around the world has shown the presence of the B.1.617 variant. Meanwhile, Canada's largest province has suspended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Follow DW for the latest.
