Clint Peay and Revolution II returned to action Wednesday night, looking to build off the momentum generated from shutout victories in their previous two outings, as they returned to Breese Stevens Field for the second time in 2 weeks. Their last trip saw Michael Tsicolulias and Noel Buck pick up goals in a 2-0 win over Forward Madison.
There were three changes to the Revs II starting lineup from their 3-0 victory over North Texas S.C. as Joe Rice, Hikaru Fujiwara, and Ryan Sierakowski returned to the starting lineup.
Over the past few years, the NCAA transfer portal has provided student-athletes the ability to move between schools and, effectively, explore free agency, as it were.
In the last couple of months alone, Penn State football and basketball have seen roster turnover through the transfer portal. Often, it seems to be players leaving Penn State and finding new homes elsewhere.
But what about the players who have transferred into Penn State and become stars during their time as a Nittany Lion? Let’s take a brief look at some of the greatest transfer successes in Penn State history.
DJ Newbill, Guard, Penn State Hoops
The 24-year-old
transferred to Forward Madison FC of USL League One, the third tier in the American professional soccer pyramid.

Irish Messi,” is known for his ability to pick apart the other teams’ defenses with his ball control and eye for the through ball. Madison coach Carl Craig wants him to be no different than the tenacious Nittany Lion was named
“When I spoke to the new coach, the culture that he was creating, the environment he wanted to set in Madison was something I wanted to be a part of,” Molloy said. “He wants me in the heart of midfield. He wants me to be the ball-playing midfielder, breaking lines with my passes.”
Penn State men’s soccer defender Brandon Hackenberg was
selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft last week under unusual circumstances. The redshirt senior heard his name called No. 22 overall by Orlando City SC and holds the distinction of being in the first (and hopefully last) class affected by the coronavirus.
Due to the pandemic, Hackenberg and his Penn State teammates were stripped of a fall season, meaning all MLS draftees were given the opportunity to return to the collegiate level for an unorthodox spring campaign.
“It’s a unique opportunity, something that no one else has had to deal with,” Hackenberg said. “The NCAA has given all the seniors an extra year; it’s not just me, it’s everyone in the draft who has a decision to make. Right now, the best thing for me is to come back this season. I got a little bit of unfinished business that I want to take care of here.”
2021 MLS Superdraft Preview
The Superdraft is coming up on 1/21 so I expect one of the STF writers will be writing up a lengthy preview. I hope so, because I don t know enough about the prospects to have a good sense of what the options are. I have done a tiny bit of digging though, because I couldn t wait. I see us having the following positions of need: right back depth, left back depth, central defender/center back depth, a MF replacement for Flores, and possibly a winger.
As we have young players at right and left fullback and no veteran depth at either position right now, we may look elsewhere to fill at least one of those spots. The rumor that we may be picking up Josecarlos van Rankin seems to have legs and would give us relatively young and experienced depth on the right. We still need at least one more fullback option that can play left or both sides. As hyped as Bravo is, we still want some competition there, a substitute, or a back up plan, if not all of the above rolled
