Will Heffernan has taken out top spot in the Final Stage of ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School with a score of 5-under 283 on the Open Course at Moonah Links.
After strong winds blasted the seaside course from rounds one to three, Heffernan made the most of benign conditions on Friday to post a final round of 2-under 70 and take a one-stroke victory over David Micheluzzi, Aaron Wilkin and John Lyras in second place.
Heffernan now holds Category 9 Tournament Exemption on the PGA Tour of Australasia for the 2021/22 season that will see him receive automatic entry into all events on the Tour including the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open.

Bryden Macpherson’s hot 64 has thrown him into a potential weekend shootout with touring housemate Chris Wood for the Isuzu Queensland Open title.
Macpherson grabbed two eagles on par fives to bankroll his eight-under-par round on a hectic Friday at Pelican Waters Golf Club outside Caloundra.
Some players in the field were trying to clear 27 holes in the day to make up for the big rain interruption when the course was hit by a wild squall on Thursday.
Victorian Macpherson’s 72-64 start has got him to eight-under-par which was matched by Queenslander Wood (68-68).

The guiding hand of his father and a PGA TOUR reality check has positioned Sydney’s John Lyras to push for a breakthrough Professional win when the Moonah Links PGA Classic concludes at Moonah Links on Thursday.
The possibility of border closures has prompted ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia officials to play the final two rounds on Thursday with groups of two to play in a cart, the third round to commence at 7.15am and the final round at 11.45am AEDT.
It means Lyras will only have to sleep on the lead for one more night after following up his 6-under 66 in the first round with a composed and patient 5-under 67 on Wednesday to be 11-under at the halfway mark.
