El-Rufai vs NLC: Kaduna Governor comes under scrutiny in aftermath of faceoff with Labour

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai has increasingly being in the news lately, as Nigerians continue to scrutinise his claims of being a democrat.
Though Kaduna has always been in the news largely due to insecurity that pervades the State, resulting in mass abduction of students and killings especially in the Southern part of the State, the events of last week, seem to have more than ever, put the former FCT Minister under the spotlight.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had mobilized workers in Kaduna State for a five-day warning strike to protest the mass sacking of workers by the el-Rufai administration, especially the planned sacking of seven thousand workers from the state’s local government areas workforce.
A protest on Wednesday against the mass sack by the Nasir El-Rufai-led government was interrupted.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige confirmed that arrests were made and investigation ongoing.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates had commenced a five-day strike over sack of 4,000 workers.
The industrial action was called off after the intervention of the federal government.
Biobelemoye-Joy Josiah, MHWUN National President in a statement alleged that El-Rufai unleashed thugs against unions.
He said El-Rufai’s attitude against workers “whose only offence is that they chose to serve their fatherland diligently with all man-made inconveniences is most unfortunate.

Ekweremadu, health workers berate El-Rufai over attack on workers

A former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria have berated the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai over the crisis between his administration and the organised labour following the sacking of workers in the state.
Ekweremadu, who also condemned the invasion of the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat in Kaduna by suspected thugs, disclosed that the leadership of the national assembly would engage the governor in order to resolve the crisis that has paralysed economic activities in the state.
